It's so exciting to be the proud owner of your very first home. There are so many things to consider when owning a house. Security should be one of your priorities, and you should make sure that the security gates for your home are strong and of good quality.

When you go to look at the different houses on the market you need to look out for a few things. Have a good look at what the condition the gates are in. Make sure that they are not rusted or that the rust has been painted over.

You should also take a drive around the neighborhood and see if the neighbors have security measures installed. This is a good indication on the type of crime in the area. If a neighborhood has electric fences, high walls and burglar bars around all of the windows, this could mean they experience a lot of house robberies.

You need to have a look inside the bathrooms and kitchen where you will see if there is mold on the walls or surrounding areas. Have a chat to your property agent should you happen to find some mold. Sometimes the owner is willing to fix the problem or offer a discount on the house and you then need to fix it.

Once you are satisfied with the security aspect of the property, you should look for other health risks. Mold in a house is extremely harmful. Mold spores can be breathed in to your lungs and can cause death. Look in the bathroom areas as well as kitchen areas where moisture can build up. Speak to the real estate agent if you do find mold, and see if the owner would be willing to get rid of it before purchasing the house or on condition of purchasing.

Always check if you can afford a house before you sign for a mortgage. Take a close look at the budget plan you have set out to see if you can afford the monthly mortgage payments. Remember that these payments have a yearly increase and you need to budget extra a month for this.

Remember that you are going to have to conduct maintenance in and around the house. You have to make sure that you have put enough money away every year so that you have the funds available. You are going to be responsible for your own garden and cutting the lawn. The wonderful thing about gardening is that you could hire a garden service who will keep up with the maintenance of the garden for you.

Why don't you look at purchasing an old house which would just need a bit of TLC? Sometimes an old, run down houses can look like a master piece by just putting paint on it. You need to install security gates at your home to keep the house and its contents safe from intruders.
