It is only through trapping that one can be sure that the moles have successfully been captured. Several people have tried this method but have not been successful. The process could be difficult but knowing how to set a mole trap can help you to fully get rid of the moles. You need to first understand how complex their tunnels are.

They have their advantages in that they help the soil to get fresh air and eat the harmful organisms found in the soil. If you do not have an issue with them being in your compound you can let them be. However in case you cannot stand trying trapping them. Set a live trap where a bucket if put under the hole waiting for them to fall inside.

You can then cover the hole with plywood as it will let you keep track of the mole. Once it falls in take it to a different location far from your property. However, the most tested and effective method has been spring trap. Here one is supposed to make a given area inside the tunnel flat and place the traps over it. These traps have directions on how to set them.

Step by step follow the instructions indicated and arm the tool. In case it takes days before it has been trapped remove and take it to a different tunnel. This kind of trap is activated when the mole pushes itself hard touching the spring. These traps must be set in places where moles are active. Therefore before taking any step locate the active tunnels.

If you get a trap before the mole settles you will end up chasing one mole all over you compound. A mole will not settle until it feels secure in a given area. Do not distract it until you stop seeing mole hills pop up every morning. To know how long and deep the hole is stick in a something that can measure the length.

The trap should be in a position whereby it can be set off once it is touched. These traps are closely related to the mice ones whereby with the slightest touch the go off. You do not want to lose your target. Place it a place where there will be no distraction. Ensure that you remove the soil away from the trap since it could prevent moles from being trapped.

After setting the trap cover the hole and leave it like it was previously. Ensure that the soil does not cover the entrance. However make sure that all the spaces are sealed such that there is no light getting into the hole. This is because the mole will not pass through a tunnel that is bright. It thrives in dark grounds. You can place a board only if the tunnel is deep.

There are people who have perfected the art of catching moles and find the job exciting. Before you become obsessed with hunting moles look for the active tunnels first. You do not want to waste your time and money on nothing. Be patient even if you go for months without a catch just in case you want to be in the business.
