There is a reason that Bengal cats look like an animal you would find in the jungle or the zoo. The breed is derived from crossing domestic cats with the Asian Leopard cat, called ALC for short. The ALC are surprisingly small, about the size of a domestic cat. To be considered and registered as a domestic Bengal, the kittens have to be fourth generation removed from the original breeding. The breed are exceptional adept at jumping. The hind legs are longer than the front, which gives them a real pouncing advantage. With their small, slender bodies the cats are able to jump and explore whatever interests them. The fact that the pets are excellent hunters is often a cure for any rodent problem.

The pets do not like to be left alone. They very much want to interact with their owners. Left to their own devices, they can be somewhat destructive. If you love playing with your cats, you will enjoy hours of fun with your new pet. If you like a cat that minds his own business and lies around the house, this cat is not for you.

The good news is that the cats are self reliant when it comes to their grooming. In this sense there is very little maintenance. It is comforting to know that your Bengal is immune to feline cancer. You and your cat can be a match made in kitty heaven. Be sure you are right for each other and consider the needs of the cat.
