There are many advantages to using propane, and one of the biggest plusses is that just about anyone can set up a propane tank and start up service. Propane is clean fuel that burns more efficiently than many different energy sources.

If you currently are set up for natural gas, then you will need to convert your appliances so that they are ready to use propane instead. A technician should be able to do this for most appliances, such as your stove or heater. If your appliances are older, you might consider replacing them with new propane-ready appliances and you have many options.

You probably already know that your stove and furnace can be powered with propane, but so can many other appliances. If you have a fireplace, this can be converted from natural gas to propane or you can upgrade to a propane fireplace. There are even cute cast iron stoves that run on propane, which add a pleasant and practical decorative feature to any home.

While you probably use electricity for your refrigerator, you actually can purchase a refrigerator that runs on propane. There are all sizes and styles of propane refrigerators to consider buying. In addition, your washer and dryer also can be powered with propane. Most people can't afford to replace each and every appliance with a propane-powered appliance, so just consider upgrading one item at a time.

If you are interesting in living off the grid, propane can be your main source of energy. In addition, you also might consider a combination of solar power and propane. Even if you still plan on staying connected to the grid, a propane generator can be an excellent source of energy in an area where there are often interruptions in power. That's another advantage to using propane in general. If the grid goes down for any reason, your propane tank still functions perfectly, providing you with the energy you need.

All energy comes with a price tag, and the propane prices do change daily. Typically, there are times when the demand is lower and the price drops. Propane companies such as Thrifty Propane encourage customers to buy all or most of their yearly propane during times when the price is very low. This can really reduce your yearly energy costs, and even help you save enough money to purchase a new propane appliance.
